Board Summary
Itoya And The Drowning Rat-Part I

Itoya was still in Pry 6 when he started having the strong wish to hunt and kill games all by himself. On several occasions, he had witnessed his father’s next door nieghbours coming home with a large number of game usually after a catastrophic bush burning. His father also came home with game on such days but not as much as Tuke and his ‘army’ of grandsons!
Itoya, apart from seeing these events also listened to the boys as they recounted how they chased this otr that animal before overcoming it. Such stories only ignited and fuelled the little boy’s desire more and more. So he began to pan his own hunting expedition.
But there was going to be a problem. Itoya had not a single hunting weapon. He could not even set bird traps, let alone other traps. The first and only time he had tried his trap setting skill, it was with an iron rat trap. But in the end however, the trap had ended up pinning his thumb right down with such force that he cried out only to be rescued form the trap by his father!
Recently, in the classroom, Itoya had been taught that meat from animals was a good source of protein, making Itoya more and more determined to hunt and kill game.
Itoya returned from school one day and on getting to the backyard, right inside the half empty drum of water by the corner of the wall was a big, black rat struggling frantically to get out. But each time I tried, it gulped more water.
Itoya was attracted by the gulu gulu sound the rat was making in its attempt at escape. Itoya ran to the drum and on seeing the game, shouted with glee, “Yes! Here at last, I kill my first game.”
Itoya ran, got a stick and killed the rat before one could say Jack Robinson! He scoped it out of water and proceeded to roast it over a charcoal fire! The rat was badly roasted with patches of wet black hair covering many parts. The rat had been wet and so was not dry enough to roast properly. In the end however, Itoya cut up the roasted meat into four pieces, salted the delicacy and placed it on a wire mesh. Itoya placed the mesh over the low fire and yawned several times.
By the time his parents returned from the farm, Itoya was exhausted and had fallen asleep.
